Judges' Statement

"The winning modelers captured the right level of detail to efficiently reflect the character and complexity of the campuses they represented:

* They used good judgement about what to detail so that interesting aspects of the buildings were captured.

* There was an overall consistency to all the models on each campus.

* The photo-texturing was exceptional – people, cars and vegetation were removed so that the building textures were plainly visible. Most impressively, some buildings had very small courtyards that were very difficult to photograph but were textured nonetheless.

* The buildings were well-integrated into the terrain; either the terrain was modified or foundation conditions had been developed.

* In most cases, site details such as walls, fountains and sculptures were included, this added great interest to the models.

We looked specifically at the quality of the models, not the quality of the architecture itself (which the modelers obviously couldn't influence). A number of submittals were very close runners-up, but did not get selected due to floating or sunken buildings, textures showing an excess of vegetation or cars, or the presence of a few buildings with a lower level of detail than the rest.

Thank you to everyone who took part, congratulations to the winners, and best of luck to next year's modelers-- you have big shoes to fill."
