Judges' Statement

"Last week, we had the opportunity to watch college campus environments come alive with SketchUp and Google Earth. We couldn't help but be impressed with the effort put forth by the many teams and individuals who participated. The selection of finalists was the result of a lively discussion and a careful model review; ultimately, the top teams' entries bubbled to the top.

"To the finalists: In the coming weeks, as these campus models are added to Google Earth's 3D Buildings layer, we hope that people will see them, learn from your creativity and appreciate the time, effort and pride you put into your submissions. We're sure that your work will be extraordinarily useful in college recruiting efforts and campus planning activities, and we look forward to seeing what else you will do with your new found SketchUp and Google Earth skills. You've set a very high standard and hopefully inspired those that will follow you."

The Judges

Winners were chosen by our panel of the following industry experts:

Bobby Brooks, AIA
Creative Director,
Concept Architecture,
Walt Disney Imagineering
Glendale, CA

We're pretty darn jazzed to have Bobby on our panel. Coming from Disney's Imagineering team, where he's spent the past 16 years doing everything from master planning and conceptual design to building projects that explore things like full-size theme parks and urban entertainment centers, to small theater shows and attractions, Bobby knows good design. He currently serves as Director of Design for the American Institute of Architecture OC, is an active member of the American Society of Architectural Illustrators, and was past Board of Director member for the American Society of Engineers and Architects.

Ken Harsha
Producer/Production Designer,
Electronic Arts
Redwood City, CA

Ken has worked in the entertainment business for over 17 years. Starting out in TV animation he created storyboards for award winning television shows like The Simpsons, Steven Spielberg's Tinytoon Adventures, and Steven Spielberg's: Animaniacs, among others. Moving from television to feature film animation, Ken was one of the first story artists to be hired by Dreamwork's Feature Animation Studios. After Dreamworks, Ken moved over to Disney Feature Animation where he worked for 5 years in story development. During that time he worked on such Academy Award nominated films as A Prince of Egypt, Shrek, and Treasure Planet. Now in the video game industry working for Electronic Arts (EA), he directed the concept art department and the cinematics for the game: GoldenEye: Rogue Agent. He is the Producer and the Production Designer for EA's next generation game: Medal of Honor: Airborne. Ken is a huge Google SketchUp fan and his team of concept artists heavily uses Google SketchUp Pro during the pre-production phase of game development. Wow, does life get any more creative than this? What a blast to have Ken joining our panel!
